LaPorte Urban Enterprise Zone Accepting Grant Applications

LA PORTE - The La Porte Urban Enterprise Zone is now accepting applications for this year's grant programs.

The first program, "Downtown La Porte Looking Up," will help fund rehabilitation or replacement of windows in upper floors of downtown business buildings located in the "specialty retail, art and entertainment" area. The Enterprise Zone Board allocated $20,000 toward the program. Applications will be considered for matching grants of up to $10,000 per property address. The second program is the "Downtown LaPorte Façade Improvement Program." This program will help fund more extensive rehabilitation of building facades within the targeted area mentioned above. The Enterprise Zone Board allocated $45,000 for this program and will consider applications for matching grants of up to $15,000 per property address.

The third program, "Business Grant Program," will fund exterior improvements to eligible zone businesses through a matching grant up to $5,000. Eligible rehabilitation activities include, but are not limited to: doors, windows, roofs, signage, fencing, painting, sidewalks, awnings, and landscaping.

Owners may use all programs simultaneously.

The fourth program, "Enrichment Grant Program," is for eligible civic, religious and educational organizations with missions that include encouraging community initiatives, collaborations and partnerships that directly benefit the residents of the La Porte Enterprise Zone.

All applications will be accepted until March 31, with grant awards announced by April 30. Applications are available on the city Web site, www.cityoflaporte.com, under La Porte Urban Enterprise Zone, or through the Office of Community Development and Planning.
